Still or sparkling, dusty pink, pale garnet or rich coral, light and minerally or medium-bodied, rosé wine is an understated – and increasingly popular – jewel in a winemaker’s repertoire. And for wine lovers, it can be seriously sophisticated, seriously drinkable and, like its floral namesake, always a good idea.

In previous decades, Provence ruled the rosé kingdom, and ultra-pale was the fashion. Now rosé comes in all shades and from many more regions and grapes. California has its blush Zinfandels. Spain and Portugal offer Garnacha and Touriga rosados across the pink spectrum. And you’ll also find high-quality rosés in Austria, Italy, Australia and New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Slovenia and Greece.

And now, of course, England. At Gusbourne, we make both sparkling and still rosé wines, each distinctively different and both ideal for sunny summer gatherings and seasonal celebrations and menus all year round.

Gusbourne Rosé 2017

Elegant, structured, fresh and delightfully balanced, our Rosé 2017 is made for celebrations big and small, extraordinary and everyday. Made in the traditional method from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes grown right here on the Gusbourne Estate, this delicately pink sparkling wine is alive with intense aromas of soft summer berries, wild strawberry and fresh pastry notes on the nose.

Ageing on its lees and also on cork adds depth and complexity to this sparkling wine’s primary notes of cranberry, ripe cherry and subtle floral character, finishing with a vibrant layer of citrus.

Truly versatile with food, Rosé 2017 is an ideal companion to an abundance of seasonal ingredients throughout the year. Mussels simply steamed with butter, herbs and white wine. Red meats like seared loin of venison or a herb-crusted rack of lamb. Fleshy vegetables like marinated roasted squash. Even a creamy risotto or fish pie. Save some for the cheese course, especially a tangy, mild blue.

Gusbourne Pinot Noir Rosé 2020

This limited-edition single varietal from our Mill Hill vineyard in Kent has sold out every summer since its first release in 2018. Fermented exclusively in stainless-steel tanks, our 100% Pinot Noir Rosé is full of summer berries, with notes of orange peel and nectarine alongside subtle hints of wildflowers. The finish is fabulously fresh and citrussy.

A delight as an aperitif and wonderfully well matched with everything we love to eat outdoors: barbecued chicken, grilled salmon, dressed crab, herby halloumi skewers or a zingy watermelon, feta and mint salad. And for dessert? Ripe Kentish strawberries and cream, of course.
