This spring and summer, more than ever, the simple combination of fresh air and fresh food is a luxury to be savoured. As we welcome guests back to Gusbourne, we offer a few suggestions for the perfect picnic.
Save your date
You are warmly welcome to our home in Appledore, Kent, for Vineyard Tours and picnics. Our specially created picnic place at the top of our Boot Hill vineyard is ready and waiting – imagine the views across our Pinot Noir vines, over the lush wetlands of Romney Marsh and towards nearby Camber and Dungeness as you sit down to lunch in the open air…
Make it inclusive
Bring the dog, bring your bubble. Or just your one favourite other. You can also buy a picnic gift card, bookable by recipients for a date that suits them.
Inside your picnic you’ll find the best of Kent and Sussex produce, such as artisan cheese and charcuterie, local fruit and homemade bread, accompanied by a bottle of Gusbourne Brut Reserve (usually £39 per bottle). All this is presented in a Gusbourne bag with reusable picnic glassware and a sparkling wine stopper for you to keep.
Please note, it is not possible for guests to bring their own food and wine onto the estate.

Our biodiverse vineyards are full of birdsong and the gentle rustle of leaves. Take a well-deserved device break and immerse your senses in nature. Our vineyard team have even turned their talents to handcrafting beautiful bespoke picnic tables that look and feel right at home in our spectacular setting.
Dress for the occasion
We’re blessed with some of the country’s sunniest spring and summer days, so check the weather and dress accordingly. Sunblock’s always a good idea. A hat if you prefer. And comfortable shoes are a must, especially if you’ve also booked a Vineyard Tour before or after your picnic.
Make a foodie day of it
There’s so much to explore in this historically rich county, including our pretty home village of Appledore. We’re also surrounded, here and in neighbouring Sussex, by excellent producers and suppliers of artisanal cheeses, meats and charcuterie, seafood, bread, beer, cider, honey, berries and local specialities such as cobnuts. We guarantee your picnic won’t leave you hungry, but it may stoke your appetite for bringing a taste of the Garden of England home with you.
Make it even more memorable
We invite guests to explore all the things that make Gusbourne so special, and to learn more about our approach to growing our grapes and making our wines. Soak up the essence of Gusbourne on a guided tour with one of our experts. And just ask us at The Nest if you'd like to upgrade your wine or add more bottles to your picnic. You can also purchase bottles from our cellar door to take home with you.
Gusbourne picnics (charcuterie, vegetarian or vegan) are £80 for two people, and include a bottle of Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2016, a Gusbourne picnic bag and reusable picnic glassware for you to keep. Arrive at your leisure between 12.00 and 13.30 on your booked date.
Good to know
You may transfer your picnic to a new date up to one week prior to your booking, subject to availability. All picnics must be booked in advance and are not available for drop-in guests due to Covid-19 restrictions. For full safety protocols in place at Gusbourne, click here.

What's Your Sparkling Style?
Making fine wine is a slow, measured procession of individual steps – each with its own terminology, not always fully understood outside the cellar door. Here we explain the final step in the process, known as dosage.
In the Pink: A Rosé for All Seasons
A favourite in all seasons, perfectly chilled rosé hits its stride as the mercury climbs and more than holds its own on cool-weather menus too.
The Saxon Shore Way
Pity the poor Romans. After all their hard work civilising Britain for 366 years, the waves of invading barbarians became too much to bear. Abandoned fortifications pepper the Saxon Shore Way, a 153-mile route from Gravesend to Hastings that passes through the Gusbourne estate.
