We are delighted to announce the release of Gusbourne Blanc de Noirs 2016, the newest addition to our sparkling wines. When producing Blanc de Noirs, our aim was to create a classic alternative to Blanc de Blancs, a true reflection of a contemporary sparkling Pinot Noir.

We specifically chose only our absolutely prime lots of Pinot Noir to create this wine, ensuring that it demonstrates the fullness and richness, finesse and structure expected of this style. The wine has spent a minimum of 26 months ageing on its lees, combined with an additional 6 months on cork.

Our Vineyard Manager, Jon Pollard, recalls that “2016 was an exceptional vintage, similar to 2008 given it yielded very fine fruit that was high in sugar and acid.”

Head Winemaker, Charlie Holland, notes that it has been his aim to produce a Blanc de Noirs for several years, “as soon as we tasted the first pressings from the two sites in 2016, we were excited about the possibility of producing a Blanc de Noirs. I am thrilled to see the wine being released this year. I wanted to create a wine that was full, rich and round. A characteristic 100% Pinot Noir, with drive and energy, but importantly, brimming with abundant red fruit”.

Charlie adds that “we plan to create Blanc de Noirs regularly in future, but like our still Pinot Noir, we will only do so when suitable ripeness levels have been achieved.”
