WHAT IS A BARREL SELECTION WINE?
Our barrel selection wines are unique, limited bottlings. We create them only when our winemaking team identify a particular wine’s exceptional potential, depth of flavour and complexity. For those who know Gusbourne well, these incredibly focused wines give a fascinating window onto a specific slice of our terroir, captured at a precise moment in time.
When our winemakers tasted through the barrels before bottling the 2020 vintage, a portion of Boot Hill Chardonnay stood out as particularly complex, with a distinctive depth of flavour. It was really intense, full, rich, round – atypical of English Chardonnay.
Since bottling, the wine has continued to evolve gracefully and this generous, yet elegantly balanced Chardonnay, is now ready to enjoy.
Barrel Selection wines are only available in very limited quantities. We’re pleased to now offer you the chance to purchase this release before it becomes available to the general public.
TASTING NOTE & FOOD PAIRING
Pale golden in the glass, an intense nose shows aromas of honeyed citrus, stone fruit and delicate spice. On the palate, the wine is rich and rounded, with ripe citrus, orchard and stone fruits, highlighted by lemon, peach and green apple. Barrel fermentation and further ageing brings a creamy texture, with toasted nuts and sweet vanilla notes leading to a long, persistent finish. The wine is an ideal pair to fish, seafood, light meats and veggie dishes. Try a seafood chowder with fresh clams and mussels or ginger and garlic barbecued chicken thighs with charred baby corn and white bean salad.
